Bokaro district

Bokaro district ((ヒンディー語:बोकारो जिला)) is one of the most industrialized zone in India. It is one of the twenty-four districts of Jharkhand state, India. It was established in 1991 by carving out one subdivision consisting of two blocks from Dhanbad District and six blocks from Giridih District. Bokaro Steel City is the district headquarters. The district has a population of about 2 million (2011 census). Bokaro is famous for its Steel Plant which is the biggest in Asia. It is the fourth integrated public sector steel plant in India built with Soviet help. It is also famous for its quality educational system. Besides,it is also a popular tourist destination for people from Eastern Region and also foreigners. Bokaro houses companies like Steel Authority of India, Bharat Refractories Limited, Hindustan Steelworks Construction Limited, Damodar Valley Corporation, subsidiaries of Coal India Limited, Electrosteel Castings Limited, Bokaro Power Supply Company Pvt. Limited (BPSCL), Indian Explosive Limited, Jaypee Group, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation and many more. Some big corporates are also setting up there industries here, such as - ArcelorMittal 12ml/t steel plant, Posco 3ml/t steel plant and SAIL greenfield steel plant of 12 ml/t are coming soon around the city. In the next five Bokaro alone contribute half of the steel production of the country. Bokaro industrial area is located in Bokaro steel city established by state public sector BIADA (Bokaro Industrial Area Development Authority). Around 500 SSI units are situated in this industrial area and they are having good infrastructural support Bokaro Steel City is also the Police HQ of Chhotanagpur Division. The Chief Executive of the district is the Deputy Commissioner (District Magistrate/Collector). The present Deputy Commissioner is Mr. Uma Shankar Singh - an officer of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS).
==Geography==
Bokaro district covers a geographical area of 2883 km². The average altitude of the land is 210 metres from mean sea level.
The district has a maze of valleys and sub-valleys formed by the River Damodar and its tributaries. They form an important source of water for the industries and townships which have sprung up on its banks in the last few decades. Some hills and hillocks rise above the gentle valley making it a panoramic landscape to view.
The population is drawn from all parts of India. The population is well educated and urbane.
